The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections, known famously as Bersih, has organized a demonstration in 28th of April 2012. The theme of this rally, the third is what we called Sit-In. The major event was held in Kuala Lumpur, the federal capital of Malaysia. At the same time, similar demonstrations are held in other major cities in the country, Penang, Ipoh, and Kuantan, to name a few. People from all walks of life joined in and show support to the event which is fighting the cause for every single Malaysians, regardless the ethnic backgrounds, social status or even educational level.

I’m proud to be able to join the event in Penang, held at the Speakers Square at Penang’s Esplanade, and captured some shots to show others the magnitude of supporters on the Bersih Coalition. It was a rainy day, nevertheless, it didn’t stop the people of joining the event.

After the main speech of the leaders, people gathered around the banners / boards to leave a signature, to sign the petition of the Bersih cause.

Yellow, is the color chosen as the symbol of protest and Bersih. All the supporters are urged to wear yellow on that same day. And there’s almost 80% of people were wearing yellow or different shades of yellow.

What a nice and warm feeling for a bedroom Taken after the main lights were off during the trip to Langkawi.

We had our first hands-on experience with Batik, a traditional cloth made with wax-resist dyeing technique. It can be done either by manually outlining the wax or using stamping methods to duplicate certain design on the cloth. Similar dyeing techniques have been observed in cultures around east Asian countries.

The Jewel of Kedah - Langkawi

It’s been sometime that we have a family vacation, since the one last year to Penang during CNY. April this year, we went to Langkawi Talking about that, my parents hasn’t set foot to this island for almost 20 years.

After touching down, we went straight to check in to “Sweet Inn”, a cozy accommodation close to the Pantai Cenang. Later on, we went to Langkawi Underwater World, which is pretty close, around 5min of drive from where we stay.

We went for the dinner and some shopping at the nearby shops at Cenang Beach.

We went to the famous Eagle Square next day, following by visiting the Perdana Gallery and the Air Hangat Hot Spring.

We stopped by Pantai Pasir Hitam on the way to Telaga Habour for our lunch at the USSR Restaurant for some Russian cuisine.

The next day, we went for a beach walk early in the morning before breakfast.

Homemade YuSheng

Renri – 人日, known as the “the common man’s birthday” in Chinese culture. This falls on the seventh day of the Chinese New Year. Families, friends and sometimes even colleagues will get together and have a meal that comes with Low Sang – 捞生.

Low Sang, YuSheng - 捞生/鱼生, literally means “Prosperity Toss” that signifies good fortune ahead in the year, and a typical YuSheng comes with shredded colorful vegetables, sweet and sour sauce and raw fish. Traditionally, it’s snakehead, but nowadays restaurants substitute it with salmons and sometimes cooked chicken as well.

Beside the YuSheng, porridge / congee will be one of the main dish as well. Below are some of the photos captured during the meal

It’s a tradition of my family to invite the dancer troupe to my house to perform the Cai Ching custom on the second day of Chinese New Year, which is known as “Kai Nian” - 开年, beginning of the year. An famously known as the day which we all pray for the God of Wealth for good fortune in the coming year ahead.
